Question: How do I measure sustainable development?
Answer:
Guidance on measuring Sustainable Development is available from the SDU website, Association of Public Health Observatories Technical Briefing and also a summary Measuring SD in the NHS.
Carbon measures for NHS organisations include building energy use, waste and water emissions calculated by erpho using DH approved methods. Many NHS organisations are also calculating their emissions from procurement using the P4CR SCO2PE tool and supporting materials or by participating in the 2011 procurement carbon footprint project.
Environmental reporting extends beyond carbon and further guidance is available on the Defra website.
Sustainability reporting can also include Social Value and other measures including health and wellbeing. If you are interested in more information about measurement sign up for the System Governance theme of the route map.
