Monitor Consultation - SDU Response

The SDU has responded to a Monitor Consultation asking for feedback on a ‘Strategic Options for Costing’ report. The report focusses on the costing information that underpins the current Payment by Results (PbR) system.

The report provides recommendations for Monitor on how they can improve the costing methodology, how data is collected and assurance on the quality of the data used for developing the costs used to set PbR prices.

This consultation is important because setting prices for NHS-funded services will be one of the most important levers in encouraging and enabling a sustainable health system.

One of the key recommendations in the report is for Monitor to collect costs from a sample of providers, stratified according to provider characteristics to help set the price for services under PbR.

Ensuring the sustainability performance of selected providers is included as one of these characteristics will ensure that a fair price is set that takes into account the significant infrastructure and model of care savings delivered by adopting a sustainable approach to health care delivery.

It will be important that as many people as possible respond to this consultation.  You are free to use our consultation response as a framework for your own.
