The NHS SDU’s Director David Pencheon has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list.  (Click here to see David's OBE reception).

David received an Officer of the British Empire award for his services to Public Health and  particularly for his current work on improving sustainability in the NHS.

David has always had a keen interest in sustainability and helped found the NHS Sustainable Development Unit in April 2008.

Since then he and his team have worked tirelessly to promote the benefits of sustainable healthcare not only nationally but also internationally.

David said:

“I am obviously delighted to receive an OBE and it is a very welcome recognition of the huge efforts being made throughout the NHS and the public health system to improve patient care and public health.

“It is an acknowledgment of the fact that working towards a sustainable health service which (is both financially and environmentally affordable) is seen as essential for the long term future of healthcare in this country.”
